Today is going to be a short day, only 250 miles to the Jasper-Banff National Park and day 5 since leaving Fairbanks. Hard to believe it took that long to get here. It started out a bit dreary, but we were glad to get back to the mountains.
We were a bit surprised to find out that unlike the US national parks, Canada's charge by the day - to the tune of $20 each day. We bought 4 days worth and headed for Jasper.
Jasper is really a nice town - a tourist trap full of souvenier shops and restaurants, but nice. They have a real big train and totem pole too.
We took a side road outside town and spotted this elk laying down not far from the road.
Roxane tood a dare and walked to the top of the hill to get a head shot.
We camped for two nights at the Wabasso Camp ground. A real nice, woodsey campground. We decided to live without a campfire though as they wanted $9.00 a day just to have a fire with your own firewood. Another strike against Canada...
