When daylight came we could finally get a good look at our boondock campsite. It was right next to the Toad River and came complete with a fire pit. Not bad!
It didn't take long to spot more critters. This caribou and her calf were right next to the road. We also saw a bighorn sheep, but couldn't get the camera out fast enough.
The mountains started to level out and disappear....
...kinda like this roadside cafe that apparently couldn't attract enough business.
The roads started to get flatter and straighter too - Roxane timed this picture just right!
We even started to see some signs of civilization - farm fields. Wow...
About dinner time, we came to Dawson City, BC. This is the official start/end of the Alaska Highway. In our case it was the official end and boy were we glad to see this sign!
Not much further and we were really glad to see this sign, because the last fuel stop was our only one in British Columbia at Fort Nelson. That one was about $5.40 a gallon - we won't miss British Columbia for now.
We found a couple of deals in Grand Prairie, Alberta. One was fuel for only $4.35 a gallon, and a free spot to camp at the Walmart with about 15 other campers after another tough 500 mile day on the Alcan Highway.
Really liked the pic of the hawk/eagle? against the low lying hills.
